A Lancashire councillor has resigned after it was revealed he owed almost £4,000 in council tax.

Pendle Borough Council informed members last Thursday that Conservative councillor Tom Ormerod was resigning with immediate effect.

Local news site The Lancashire Lead had revealed that Cllr Ormerod, who was elected in May 2023, owed £3,835 in unpaid council tax from the past three years, and had attended just three council meetings since December 2023.

Cllr Ormerod and the council’s Conservative group have been contacted for comment.

A by-election is expected but a date has not been confirmed.
