The membership body for children’s homes has announced a change in its membership criteria to combat the use of tax havens by childcare providers.

The Children’s Homes Association, which represents residential childcare providers in England and Wales, said they will no longer represent ‘organisations with corporate structures involving tax havens’.

The change means that if a provider wants to join the association, they must be owned in the UK, have wholly or majority shareholders who are UK taxpayers, and must not receive loans or investments that originate from a tax haven.

President of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS), Andy Smith, said the move sent ‘a positive signal about the need for a more stable care system’, The MJ reported.
