Salford Council has appointed Stephen Young as the new CEO of the local authority.

As the former chief executive of Halton Borough Council, Young is equipped with more than 30 years’ worth of knowledge and experience of local government affairs, specifically those requiring collaboration and shared responsibility.

Commenting on Young’s career, Paul Dennett, Salford City Mayor said: ‘His experience and expertise of working for a Combined Authority make him the perfect candidate for Salford as we continue to work to ensure our city’s voice is heard within our own Greater Manchester Combined Authority.’

‘I was especially impressed with his track record of delivering growth through regeneration and of improving outcomes for children and young people in Halton’, Dennett added.

In a statement made following the confirmation of his appointment, Young expressed his enthusiasm about the promise of this ‘exciting new chapter’ which will begin in autumn when he is due to step into the CEO position.
